Trump Coir Products Ltd.

Before sending the harvested coconuts to further processing the outer fibres are removed, known as coir. This fibres serve as a excellent substitute for peat, on the on hand due to its soil-improving qualities, on the other because of its eco-friendly production (unlike peat extraction).

The farmers use the majority of the coir fibres to mulch their own coconut trees. And since 2009 the left-overs find a purpose as well: The Sir Lankan company Trump Coir turns them into e.g. mats, nets, flower pots and also our coco blocs.

The Fair Trade concept was new to the employees. But they agreed at once on what the Fair Trade premium of 15 % of the selling price should be used for: eductaion and training.
